POPULAR PLUG-IN HYBRID
OWNERSHIP QUESTIONS.

Owning a BMW iPerformance model brings a host of motoring pleasures, but prospective customers always have one or two questions...

General questions.

Hybrid means more than one power source. Most manufacturers use the term plug-in hybrid, referring to the fact that these vehicles have to be plugged in to an electrical source to charge their batteries. The BMW term for these vehicles is iPerformance.

As well as BMW iPerformance, BMW Motorad has the BMW C Evolution and MINI will release a plug-in hybrid version of the MINI Countryman.

There are BMW iPerformance models in the following ranges: BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 3 Series Saloon, BMW X5, BMW 7 Series and BMW i8. A BMW 5 Series iPerformance model will be available in the spring.

The BMW 225xe, the BMW X5 xDrive40e and the BMW 740Le xDrive, as well as the BMW i8 all have all-wheel drive.

Japan has the most on its roads with more than 5 million plug-in hybrids sold.

The BMW 225xe and the BMW 330e are both eligible for a £2,500 grant. This is correct as of 31 Dec 2016, click the link for more information.

Any household socket can be used to charge an iPerformance model, as can a dedicated i Wallbox or one of more than 4,000 public ChargeNow charging stations. Click the link below for more details on the ChargeNow network.
