BMW 5 Series Touring with Rear Window Open

go adventuring. And take the family.

BMW touring models. built for family adventures.

With BMW Touring models there’s no need to compromise. They’re drivers’ cars that can take the whole family on holiday, complete with luggage. They deliver a rewarding drive and yet can fit a flat-pack kitchen in the boot.

At BMW, we build all our cars to be drivers’ cars. So no matter what’s in the car with you - be it a day’s shopping, three children and a dog, or nothing but air, the car will still feel poised, the drive satisfying.

SPACE.

Buying an estate car is about practicality, but it doesn’t have to involve compromise. At BMW we think every driver should enjoy driving, whichever BMW they drive. So our Touring models have the same meticulous approach to build quality, engineering and driving feel as the rest of our models, but with the added advantage of space.

The BMW 3 Series Touring has three seats in the back and boot space of 495 litres. Fold the seats down and this increases to 1,500 litres – they split 40:20:40 so it’s possible to take a mix of passengers and cargo. Step up to the BMW 5 Series Touring and the space increases to 560 litres in the boot and 1,600 with the seats folded down. These also split 40:20:40, should you need to mix cargo and passengers. In both models ISOFIX points on the two outer rear seats enable the easy transport of the smallest family members.

It’s not just about the boot. Both models have plenty of storage for odds and ends to keep the cabin neat and uncluttered – door bins front and rear, a folding rear armrest with cup holders, and if you add the Extended Storage Package, nets, hooks, lashing points and a strap to hold loose cargo in position. The thoughtful touches don’t end there: the rear windscreen on both the BMW 3 Series Touring and BMW 5 Series Touring opens, useful for putting small things into the rear of the car without opening the boot.

TECHNOLOGY TO ENJOY.

All BMW vehicles have technology to make every drive more enjoyable, both for the driver and passengers. BMW Touring models have the same packages and options as the Saloon models on which they’re based, and both the BMW 3 and 5 Series Touring come with BMW Business Navigation as standard, which includes the Traffic Message Channel, BMW Teleservices and BMW Emergency Call. Other technological highlights, all as standard, include tyre pressure monitoring, park distance control front and rear, an automatic tailgate, and a DAB radio, while front seat heating makes a big difference on cold mornings.

Naturally there are a host of additional options. By specifying an automatic gearbox and adding the Driving Assistance Package, the car spots danger before it’s too late. With Lane Departure Warning the car detects lane markings and triggers an alert if the car changes lane without activating an indicator. Or, if a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, Approach Control Warning is activated – flashing a symbol at first, before emitting a warning sound and finally lightly applying the brakes.

The Person Warning Function operates in a similar way, warning of a potential collision with a pedestrian at speeds between 6 and 37 mph by emitting a sound and pre-conditioning the brakes for a faster response. And in the worst case, the system actually applies the brakes.

Across both the BMW 3 Series Touring and 5 Series Touring range, there are options for every need, from back seat entertainment to head-up displays, while BMW ConnectedDrive puts a wealth of digital content at the driver’s disposal. Add in a range of Genuine BMW Accessories, including bike carriers and roof boxes, and whatever adventure you’re planning with your family, a BMW Touring model lets you do it in style.
