The BMW TwinPower Turbo engine is a remarkable piece of engineering. Whether diesel or petrol, in three-cylinder form, as fitted to the BMW 218i Coupé or the eight-cylinder version, as fitted to the BMW 650i Coupé and Gran Coupé, it delivers power with efficiency.
The BMW 2 Series Coupé has a range of four petrol and three diesel engines, offering a balance between miles per gallon and horsepower. The most economical engine, as fitted to the BMW 218d, returns 67.3 – 68.9mpg yet produces 150hp, while the most powerful engine, as fitted to the BMW M240i, produces 340hp yet returns up to 39.8mpg.
In the BMW 4 Series Coupé and Gran Coupé there are three petrol engines and four diesel engine options, offering a range of horsepower options and returning up to 64.2 – 68.9mpg. Like all BMW models, BMW EfficientDynamics contributes to the remarkable figures. Features like Auto Start-Stop, which saves fuel by switching off the engine as soon as the car comes to a stop in neutral, and Brake Energy Regeneration, which harnesses the car’s kinetic energy to charge the car’s battery, all contribute to the efficiency of the vehicle.
Like the smaller BMW Coupé models, the BMW 6 series Coupé and Gran Coupé provide a choice between petrol and diesel engines. All them produce tremendous power (320hp and 450hp from the petrol engine, 313hp from the diesel engine), yet can turn in remarkable fuel consumption figures (up to 51.4 – 52.3mpg from the diesel engine and between 32.1 – 37.2mpg for the petrol models, depending on engine and wheel sizes). Like all BMW models, they’re also aided by BMW EfficientDynamics, a range of technologies and aerodynamic aids that get the most from every drop of fuel.
