BOUNDARIES ARE THERE TO BE BROKEN.

Dynamics and efficiency in the BMW M6 Convertible.

Blurring the lines between the race-track and the road, the BMW M6 Convertible is equipped with the M TwinPower Turbo V8, cutting-edge assistance systems and suspension with motor racing DNA.

Then, with the soft-top opened, as the sunshine falls on the luxurious interior, the boundaries between car and yacht become blurred.

BMW M6 Convertible gear shifter

Seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic.

The M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic is an innovation specially designed for BMW’s M high-revving engines. It comes with traction optimised automatic gear selection, Launch Control, Low Speed Assistance, as well as Auto Start-Stop and can be controlled either automatically or manually using the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel or the gear selector in the centre console.

The M double-clutch transmission makes it possible to change gears extremely quickly without an interruption in tractive force. This is due to two sub-transmissions, each with its own clutch, which continuously relay the power of the engine to the wheels by overlapping the clutches.

The gear change strategy is also optimised with the help of navigation data – the M double-clutch transmission downshifts proactively ahead of bends. The additional Launch Control function, which allows maximum acceleration from a standing start offers an extremely dynamic driving experience.

Regardless of whether the driver selects the automatic ("D" mode) or manual ("S" mode) mode, Drivelogic always offers three shifting options: extremely sporty, comfortable and efficient.

Competition Package.

The Competition Package for the BMW M6 Convertible provides an added edge, using equipment and technology you’d expect to be reserved for the racetrack.

The output of the M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol engine jumps from 412kW to 423kW, achieved by raising the boost pressure in the upper range of revs, while the sports exhaust system generates a particularly dynamic engine sound that is destined to thrill.

On the racetrack and in everyday use, the specially tuned suspension and extremely dynamic direct steering ensure that every steering command is executed with maximum precision. On the road, the Competition Package is guaranteed to turn heads with exclusive 20-inch M light alloy wheels featuring double-spoke style 601 M in bi-colour with mixed tyres, along with the black, chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the sports exhaust system.

Active M Differential.

More traction and greater stability when cornering, even on snow, gravel or ice. The Active M Differential supplies optimum traction and supports the dynamic qualities of the rear-wheel drive – both when accelerating out of corners or manoeuvring on slippery surfaces.

The Active M Differential even gives precise handling under extreme lateral acceleration or uneven road surfaces. The system is connected to the DSC and imposes an intelligent locking action – independent of the different speeds between the right and left rear wheel. Channelling the optimum traction, it provides better handling and increased agility.

M Carbon Ceramic Brake

M CARBON CERAMIC BRAKE.

The M Carbon ceramic brake is a result of the transfer of technologies from the motorsport industry. The application of an innovative carbon fibre ceramic compound makes the braking power even more direct and improves brake-fade stabilisation. It is also non-corrosive, very resistant to abrasion, tolerates more heat and contributes to a lower vehicle weight.

Its lightweight construction reduces rotating and unsprung mass, improving acceleration, responsiveness and overall handling, but also increasing the driving dynamics and traction, improving suspension comfort and reducing fuel consumption.

With its unusually large brake discs (front 410mm, rear 396mm), six fixed piston callipers at the front and one floating piston calliper at the rear, the M Carbon ceramic brake boasts very high heat resistance even over long periods of use – which means it is also fit for the race track. The perforated, ventilated brake discs guarantee significantly enhanced responsiveness in wet conditions, as well as more intensive heat dissipation. The M Carbon ceramic brake is easy to recognise, thanks to its matt gold callipers featuring the classic M logo.

Racing characteristics.

Irresistible dynamics, striking agility, precise handling – the driving pleasure experienced in the BMW M6 Convertible is a result of sophisticated technology. Tested under the most extreme conditions, ready for a perfect sprint and offering maximum grip together they provide a truly sporty experience that’s individually adjustable to every driving style.

Launch Control enables maximum acceleration from a standing start. To use this function, deactivate Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), choose the sequential mode with driving program 3, firmly hold the brake down and press the accelerator pedal to kickdown.

After the starting flag symbol in the instrument cluster is displayed, the engine will be set to its ideal starting speed. Release the brake and the vehicle will accelerate to the maximum until the accelerator is released. The M double-clutch transmission constantly sets the gearshift points so that when changing up, the next optimal engine speed is always available.

Electronic Damper Control (EDC) automatically or manually adjusts damping force to suit road conditions. Vehicle movements that impact on driving response are monitored by sensors, the data from which is analysed and passed to the shock absorbers. These use magnetic valves to adapt damping force at continuously variable levels to changing road, load and driving conditions.

As a result there is a tangible reduction in driving movements when braking, or body movements caused by bumps, cornering or acceleration. It also increases driving safety, with reduced braking distances and improved ride comfort.

Other highlights of the BMW M6 Convertible include Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), which optimises control functions to ensure further improved driving dynamics. Additional functions are also implemented for active safety (brake readiness, dry braking, fading support) and comfort (drive-off assistant, parking brake with Automatic Hold).

Dynamic Stability Control gives the driver a choice of three modes: DSC on, MDM (M Dynamic Mode) and DSC off. While DSC ‘on’ specifically counteracts oversteering and understeering with brake intervention, MDM allows for more wheel slip.

M Servotronic constantly adjusts the car’s power steering and ensures a direct and precise steering response even at high speeds. It also delivers supreme comfort by minimising the physical effort required for steering, as well as maximising agility when parking, manoeuvring or navigating narrow or twisting roads.

The M Servotronic is specifically calibrated to M vehicles, and at the push of a button, it offers the choice of three different sets of characteristics. In combination with the Competition Package, M Servotronic boasts even more direct responsiveness.

M drive.

M Drive allows for the individual configuration of personal driver profiles from comfortable cruising, all the way up to a sporty and highly responsive set-up for use on the racetrack. Activating either of the two saved profiles (and all of the settings saved with them) is as simple as touching one of the M buttons integrated into the multifunction steering wheel at any time.

The pre-set configurations can be adjusted individually via the iDrive menu. The M driving dynamics buttons, for adjusting all of the individually configurable drivetrain and suspension functions are arranged on the centre console around the gear lever.

The driver can individually select the DSC mode or adjust the engine's performance characteristics, the Dynamic Damper Control parameters, the M Servotronic steering characteristics, the shift options for the M double-clutch transmission and the appearance of a Head-up Display. In this way, a detailed vehicle set-up can be assembled and saved.

BMW M6 Convertible EfficientDynamics

BMW EfficientDynamics Technologies.

Whether the goal is maximum performance or minimum fuel consumption, for BMW the focus is always on delivering BMW driving pleasure. BMW EfficientDynamics is the strategy developed by BMW to minimise fuel consumption and emissions while simultaneously increasing dynamics and driving pleasure. It is a comprehensive technology package that includes the drivetrain, energy management and the vehicle concept based on intelligent lightweight construction, and it is standard in every BMW.

BMW M6 Convertible Auto Start Stop

Auto Start-Stop.

Auto Start-Stop ensures that fuel is only used when the car is actually moving. When the vehicle comes to a temporary standstill such as at traffic lights or in stop-go traffic, Auto Start-Stop saves fuel by switching off the engine as soon as the car brakes to a complete standstill.

A signal in the Info Display indicates that Auto Stop-Start is active. As soon as the foot taken from the brake, the engine re-starts automatically.

Auto Start-Stop never compromises driving comfort and safety, as it remains inactive if the engine has not reached its ideal running temperature, the interior has not yet been sufficiently heated/cooled, the battery level is too low or the steering wheel is being turned. And if the car starts to roll the engine re-starts automatically.

Brake Energy Regeneration.

Brake Energy Regeneration takes the energy that is generated whenever the driver brakes or takes his or her foot off the accelerator and turns it into electricity. This electricity is then used to charge the car battery. This means that the alternator no longer needs to run constantly, which reduces the strain on it. The result: reduced fuel consumption and increased propulsion power – classic attributes of BMW EfficientDynamics.
