M Dual-clutch Transmission with Drivelogic.


The M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic is specially designed for the BMW M high-revving engine. The system boasts a traction-optimised automatic gear selection, Launch Control, Gradient Assist, Hill Detection and Low Speed Assis,t and makes it possible to change gears extremely quickly without any loss of power.

The system can be controlled automatically or manually using the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, or the gear stick for gear change at high speed without without any interruption in the power delivery.

This is fundamental to the BMW M2. Its light, compact design decreases the total weight of the car, for better driving dynamics, agility, acceleration and fuel consumption. It also balances the axle load distribution to nearly 50:50, giving the car neutral and stabilised driving characteristics in every situation.

Inside the transmission, an innovative carbon fibre friction lining makes changing gears effortless. This technology, adopted from motorsports, also contributes to greater efficiency and lower fuel consumption.

The M silencer with two twin tailpipe finishers optimises the performance and environmental-friendliness of the engine, while electric exhaust flap control perfects the characteristically sporty sound.

Active M Differential.


The Active M Differential distributes the drive torque between the two rear wheels to optimise traction and stability when accelerating out of bends or on difficult road surfaces. It provides perfect handling without any wasted power waste under situations of extreme acceleration. 

RACING CHARACTERISTICS.

The driving experience in the BMW M2 Coupé is no different, a result of highly developed technology and extreme testing, using components optimised for use under motorsport conditions to ensure maximum performance at all times.

BMW M2  Coupé encapsulates the BMW M philosophy. Power is one thing, transforming it into an incomparable driving sensation is quite another. BMW engineers are experts in marrying the two together, fusing high-tech materials such as aluminium, ceramic and carbon are combined with expertise and racing DNA.

M Dynamic Mode, a sub-function of Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), allows for improved driving dynamics by allowing a certain degree of wheel slip.

DSC uses a variety of sensors to detect unstable driving conditions, such as understeering, oversteering or a loss in traction. DSC then immediately stabilises the car by regulating engine output and individually braking specific wheels. In M Dynamic Mode, these measures are initiated later in order to heighten the driving experience. 

M Servotronic constantly adjusts the car’s power steering and ensures a direct and precise steering response, even at high speeds. It also delivers supreme comfort by minimising the physical effort required for steering, as well as maximizing agility when parking, maneuvering or navigating narrow or twisting roads.

The lightweight front and rear axles have been completely redesigned for the high demands of M vehicles. By reducing unsprung mass, driving dynamics, traction and suspension comfort are all increased. The axle load distribution is also optimised, ensuring neutral driving characteristics and better control in difficult driving situations.

They form a unit with M specific tyres, ensuring the best grip and directional stability in all road conditions.

The axle's five arms and wheel carriers are manufactured with aluminium forging technology, while the rear axle carrier is created using lightweight steel. Both ensure a significant reduction in weight. The rigid screw-joints connecting the axel to the body help achieve optimal wheel control, while diagonal bars transfer braking force to the body.

M Compound Brakes.


The technology behind M Compound Brakes comes from motorsport, so they maintain their effectiveness, even when heavily used. The use of various highly resilient materials gives excellent thermal stability, long-term durability and precise effectiveness, as well as reducing their weight. This in turn has a positive effect on agility, dynamics, acceleration and fuel consumption.

The brakes feature perforated, ventilated brake disc rings with four-piston fixed callipers at the front and two-piston fixed callipers at the rear. This  ensures optimal responsiveness in wet conditions and excellent heat dissipation. The blue metallic brake callipers with the characteristic M logo further emphasise the brake discs' sporty appearance.

BMW EfficientDynamics Technologies.


BMW EfficientDynamics is the strategy developed by BMW to minimise fuel consumption and emissions while simultaneously increasing driving pleasure. It’s a package of technologies that includes the drive train, energy management and intelligent lightweight construction, and it is standard in every BMW.

The new generation of petrol and diesel engines in the BMW TwinPower Turbo family is responsible for improved performance and lower fuel consumption. Optimised aerodynamics contribute to increasing efficiency, as does BMW EfficientLightweight, which simultaneously lowers weight and increases vehicle rigidity by using the right materials in the right places.
